Motherhood is the hardest job in the world.
But when you’re a single mom and don’t have a safe place to live, the hardest job is even harder.
For resident mom Elisha and her five-year-old son, Lucas, this was certainly true. Without stable housing and childcare, motherhood was that much harder. But things began to change when they moved to Marguerite’s Place.
Here’s Elisha’s story, in her own words:
“I never thought I’d need somewhere like Marguerite’s Place, but having to leave a situation that wasn’t healthy for me or my son meant we had nowhere else to live. Lucas was three, and as a single mom relying on just my income and no one else to help with childcare, I knew I had to ask for help to keep us safe.
Since we moved to Marguerite’s Place three years ago, my life and my son’s life have changed so much. I have a higher-paying job, and I feel more confident in myself as a person and as a mom. Lucas was able to start childcare, and the teachers here really helped him and me with some of his challenging behaviors.
I also got connected to so many resources through case management. Lucas loves soccer, and I’m able to sign him up for soccer camp this summer because I applied for a grant to help with the costs.
Today, my goal is to buy my own house where Lucas can have a yard for a puppy. I know I’m a good mom, and what I hope Lucas learns from me is that it’s okay to ask for help and it’s possible to overcome challenges.”
